Business After Hours

On Wednesday March 16th, our co-directors, Kate and Laurie, hosted the Vegas Chamber Business After Hours event here at the Museum. The event was to honor the women members of the Vegas Chamber as well as to build connections within our community. We had the pleasure of being catered by The Vegas Valley Winery, My Family Nibbles future food truck, and Kim Dung Ho who has her own photography company.

People mingle downstairs in the Africa Exhibit.

The Vegas Valley Winery was downstairs in our Africa exhibit and they gave out a complimentary first pour of champagne to our attendees, and brought along a wonderful selection of local wines. The My Family Nibbles was located in our Prehistoric Galley and they are a company dedicated to providing delicious soul food and are preparing to open up their own food truck. Kim Dung Ho was stationed in our Marine Gallery and provided free headshots to everyone for their professional resumes. They were all an integral part of making our event a smash hit!

As for our own team, we had several volunteers spread out with their own tables of varying themes to help educate everyone who were interested. We had a taxidermy and Indigenous pot sherd station which was handled by Dyann who has been working on an archaeology teaching trunk and is set to launch soon. Our Collections Manager, Laura, was located in the International Wildlife Gallery and had her own table dedicated to showing people items from our collection across the street in our repository. Our volunteer, Aimee, spoke with people on marine life with the aid of barnacles, seahorses, and more! We had two tables located across from Egypt with one which held dinosaur fossils and replicas as well as an ancient Egyptian board game and hieroglyphs on the other. Lastly, we had our wonderful volunteer, Ellis, perform his coveted Ancient Egyptian Mummification ceremony to end the night,

All in all, the event was a huge success, many business cards were exchanged, new connections were forged, and we're excited for the next event! To learn more or to join the Vegas Chamber, please visit https://www.vegaschamber.com/ to stay up to date on upcoming events.
