Meet the Minds Behind the Art: Exclusive Conversations with Harmony in Diversity Artists

Throughout April, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum is proud to present Harmony in Diversity—our first-ever art exhibition celebrating the vibrant cultures and natural beauty of the Las Vegas Valley.

This special showcase features over 50 pieces from 40 different local Las Vegas artists, each sharing their unique experiences with nature. Today, we're excited to spotlight a few of those talented creators behind this inspiring exhibition.

All three glazed ceramic pieces—Beetle, To Hold, and a third untitled work—draw from the artist’s lifelong connection to the natural world. Inspired by growing up in coastal cities, Cheyenne Yu's work reflects the influence of water, the ocean, and the hidden beauty of everyday encounters with nature. Beetle was inspired by the insects and bugs she observed on hikes, as well as ancient zoomorphic vessels found across various civilizations.

“I find it fascinating how nature serves as both a tangible and intangible foundation, connecting diverse communities and manifesting in countless forms and materials,” says Yu . “It’s a pleasure to have my art included in such a celebration of the natural world.” Yu’s work invites a conversation about connection—between humans, the environment, and shared history.

Art by Jacquelena Jones

Jacquelena Jones brings a deeply personal touch to the theme of unity through individuality. Her mini collection features three handcrafted pieces—a festive Christmas dress, a Valentine's Day sweater, inspired by her daughter, and a matching flower-shaped purse. Each piece celebrates the bond between mother and daughter.

“This clothing line is built on a ‘mother-daughter’ bond—pieces that match, yet each hold their own uniqueness,” Jones shares. “My daughter often sits and sews with me, so her

spirit is stitched into every design. These pieces are a celebration of love, creativity, and togetherness.”

Having recently transitioned into full-time design, she saw this moment as a turning point.

“I truly believe creativity through fashion design is part of my purpose—my ministry,” says Jones. “Being part of Harmony in Diversity feels like a confirmation that I’m on the right path. This show is that moment for me—a moment where things can finally start blooming.”

Rooted in her Jamaican heritage, Jacquelena’s designs reflect a vibrant cultural lineage passed down from her late grandmother, a seamstress who inspired her craft.

“After graduating from fashion school, I learned that in Jamaica, going to ‘college’ for sewing is actually free for native citizens.” says Jones. “That fact really stuck with me—it was a reminder of how embedded creativity and craftsmanship are in our culture.”

From thoughtful fabric choices to the generational story behind each stitch, Jones’s work embodies the beauty of connection—across cultures, across generations, and through art.
